RIAA Comparisons Hold Up
Personally, I felt that the comparisons of the RIAA to Nazis was a little over the top. Until I found this October, 2000 story at the BBC...
German media giant Bertelsmann has admitted it lied about its Nazi past and that it made big profits during Adolf Hitler's reign in Germany using Jewish slave labour.
A commission set up by the firm found Bertelsmann rode the rise of the Nazi party to restructure itself from a religious and school book publisher to supply millions of anti-Semitic texts.
"Bertelsmann published a variety of papers and books that clearly had anti-Jewish bias," Independent Historical Commission (IHC) Chairman Saul Friedlaender, an Israeli historian, told a news conference.
The IHC found Bertelsmann had targeted the youth market with its "Exciting Stories" series and the "The Christmas Book of the Hitler Youth" annual which pushed its sales up 20 fold.
The IHC said the company's "legend" that it was a victim of the Nazis was a lie.
The Nazis shut down the company in 1944, but probably because of war shortages rather and not because of subversive texts, it said.
"In 1945, the legend that C. Bertelsmann was closed down because of resistance to the Nazis smoothed the way for the occupation authorities promptly granting the firm a new licence to publish," the report said.
The Commission found that Bertelsmann made "indirect" use of Jewish slave labour in Latvia, and Lithuania but not at its German headquarters.
The then head of the company, Heinrich Mohn, also made donations to the SS, Hitler's special forces and concentration camp guards.

This mindset still exstist in the music Ind. but instead of it being a jewish issue it is a Label issue meaning whether your signed or not signed. A couple of years ago one of the top record honchos said that MP3.com was a Toxic Music Waste Dump. Well now we know how they feel about Indie musicans because were not signed to a Riaa label. So if your not signed then your a piece of crap. Come to think about it even if your Signed the labels still think your a piece of crap by the way they treat you. The slave labour mindset still exsists today!!!!! |

:) great article George...I feel vindicated on this one .
The truth is, there are lots of companies who have Nazi associations which are alive and well and prospering in the 21st century...some are big pharmaceutical concerns, some are banks, some are manufacturing and electronics corporations....

"A couple of years ago one of the top record honchos said that MP3.com was a Toxic Music Waste Dump."
So they bought it and exterminated it.

For Compmore and Code,
My full apologies for any criticism of references between the RIAA and the Nazis. I've always thought that such an analogy was too extreme, but now that we can see they really ARE Nazis, they are fair game. |

A battle has been waging for five years between a city and the owners of a farm in a neighboring township. The city used "eminent domain" to condemn the 48 acres to build a golf course. The residents passed referendums that would prohibit the city from moving forward without the voters' permission. But the city is moving ahead anyway. In frustration, when being removed from a city council meeting recently, the farm owners used the term "Nazi" to describe the members' behavior. The Phila. ADL got involved. They sent a letter to the farm owners. The local paper spoke out. It continues weeks later with this editorial and a reader's opinion:

lachatte, though I do agree to a point with that article I do believe that the term nazi denotes much more than the holocost.
I don't think it is possible to trivialize the horror and inhuman behavior that the holocost represents.
I do however believe that nazism also refers to tactics and methods that support brutal opression, media control and propaganda, lies, property confiscation for the good of the state, trampling civil liberties etc..... the list can go on and on. the horrors of Stalins regime DID slaughter millions of innocent jews, political prisioners and gave that state the exact same repressive tactics as well. No one has a problem throwing the word "Stalinism" around. Stalin was on the winning side so I guess his holocost wasn't as severe from a political correct standpoint.
I feel that we need to balance the two. we can't be so politically correct and norrowly focused to forget the other terrible tactics of the nazi regime and how they can be repeated in the modern world, nor can we be so complacent that we arbitrarily throw the term "nazi" around whereever we choos. I do believe that the Recording industry tactics smack more of Mafia tactics (hence the name of my video you can find on P2Pnet.net and downhillbattle.org) but also have many of the same nazi style tactics as well. |

sounds like you need a codec of one sort or the other. You can get upgrades for wmp from microsoft. But whatever you do, be very careful NOT to upgrade to media player 9 (I wouldn't even recommend media player 8) Anything above 7 is so full of DRM crap that you would be screwed.
