Broadcast Revolution for the People: DTV!!!

I am convinced that the new availablity of tv tuners for computers will unleash a flood of parodies and mashups that will make Napster look like a joke. Time for DMusic TV.

Sometimes you have to stop and reflect on the insanity of the Hollywood people trying to stop the flood. This is non-commercial speech! Satire! Whatever you call it, we have the power of media jujitsu: replaying the politician who claims he didn't say the things he DID say right on network TV. Lots of people are only too gleeful to prove he did.

Better, this is free advertising for THEIR movies using OUR work!

its as good for them as for us and art if they let go of their paranoia.

It reminds me of a cross between three of my favorites, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, and Danny O'Keefe.

I hope everyone checks that video out...I think it's great....

My friend Marty Kaplan is hosting the premiere evening show tonight on AirAmerica, it's on at 7 PST. You can catch the internet stream at airameriocaradio.com

He is expsoing media distortions. I connected him with FCC commissoner Adelstein. I expect them to roast the FCC on censorship.!! Yay.

i cant access air america radio because its in real audio media. Why cant these freaking people use a REAL standard, not REALCORP's standard.

it's a shame awehr...they're getting into some real interesting stuff...
they just said the service doesn't call the body bags, body bags any more...they're now called 'transfer tubes"....really good info coming out...

Tom, that is so cool. We need to get Air America involved in the war against file sharing, problems with Ashcroft, etc. They like parodies, we should be sending them what's been done.

I've been listening to Air America all day. I love that Randi Rhoades needled Ralph Nader enough that he hung up on her and then reamed his idiot supporters that called to complain.

The Air America web site is gradually getting up and running. There still isn't an e-mail address, but here is contact info:

where do i send my email complaining about their stupid RM streams? I'm not installing that spyware laden, system destabilizing player.

I guess i need a browser or download system capable of accessing RTSP protocols.

carla60626
Date: March 31, 2004 @ 7:27 PM
awehr -- you can install the free Realplayer and then carefully install it and uncheck all the monitoring stuff. I haven't had a problem with it.

carla...if you use spybot or ad-aware, will it remove the malware without disabling Real media player?

Tangeu
Date: March 31, 2004 @ 7:41 PM
Why not just use RealAlternative?

I've been playing the Lester Chambers clip and Tom and Leland's clip...folks, that music has SOUL in it...it gets you at an abdomonial level...
you know...I LIKE this DMusicTV idea...MTV started humbly...and something cool is that maybe we could have DMusicTV news, the REAL news, not that censored and spun crap on CNN...pablum for the mind...

I don't know about you, but I'm excited about this idea....
shout out to Fu-dog for all the hard work to keep these plates to spinning!

uhh.. i own a mac, and unlike open source players which play everything but these DRM'ed streaming proprietaries, REALplayer and WindowsMedia Player ask for ROOT access to my machine.

Why the hell should these MEDIA PLAYERS need ROOT ACCESS to my machine!!!

I refuse to give it to them, I also refuse to look at ads or have them destabilize a perfectly healthy OS by modifying its kernel. I simply refuse to open their media if they cant make it playable on open source or on quicktime.

awehr
Date: March 31, 2004 @ 8:02 PM
considering there are open source players which are even capable of accessing the new RTSP streams they use in their DRM streaming ref files, and considering the fact that I even have the ability to play matroska, I find it unreasonable to give root access to a player to watch their incompatible formats.

awehr
Date: March 31, 2004 @ 8:03 PM
in other words.. RM, WMV, and WMA can blow me... if they want me to use them then theyll make codecs for use in other players besides their own.

I don't know -- I have Peer Guardian--will that catch everything?

PG doesn't uninstall malware/spyware....Ad-Aware and Spybot do...

awehr
Date: March 31, 2004 @ 8:08 PM
malware does more than just broadcast info..

It destabilizes, slows, or otherwise causes problems with any operating system it interacts with.

They could design it otherwise, but the programmers with enough talent to do so also have enough sense not to assist an endeavor which is invasive to individuals.

mtekk
Date: March 31, 2004 @ 8:19 PM
use the mpeg 4 codec in the .avi form so we all can see it, either with quicktime (which i hate) or some other media player

CodeWarrior

the main reason for malware like that Brilliant Digital crap is advertising and marketing info...and it is a revenue generator...proving again there is no such thing as a really free lunch.

A firewall does well to take care of spyware and adware and most malware as well. But yes you are better off without it in your system. Donno what to tell yeh bub, its just the way it is.

Pest Patrol is another spyware eliminator, but you have to be much more careful with it than ad-aware or spybot...they are more automatic....and with pest patrol, if you aren't careful, you can mess things up.

Check out the NWPROGRESSIVE blog: NW Progressive Institute

The Air America site says that the O'Franken factor will be repeated 11:00 p.m. to 2: a.m. (I assume EST). Maybe they will come back on then.

I also noticed on their site that they took off the phone and fax numbers.
