emusic signs deal with bmi

emusic.com signed a major deal with music company bmi that will allow emusic.com access to some 3 million songs. after announcing the deal, emusic.com's stock rose about 16% on news of the deal. prior to being able to actually sell the music, emusic.com must obtain permission from the actual label that owns the master recordings but with a licensing deal with a major clearing house like bmi complete, permission should be attained much easier. the mp3 format, and digital music in general, just keeps getting bigger and bigger!
