DiscWatch Webmaster Rants about DMCA
Posted by Mike (Shmoo) on November 9, 2005 at 3:24 PM   (printer friendly)

I had a 2 hour waste of time while preparing a ripping guide for copy
protected media. As i was writing the guide, something was bothering me
but
i couldnt remember what it was. something I had read somewhere about
defeating copy protection.

Read on

The DMCA is a draconian piece of legislation that in effect robs you of
fair use. The courts have already decided that far use of your CD
includes
making a back up for personal use. Copy protection schemes prevent you
from
doing just that. This is fair?

No, this is the US government pandering (as always) to big business. It
goes to prove that anything in America is possible (as long as you have
a
tax free group of people with unlimited resources to bribe... I mean
lobby
the government with)

I can hear someone out there (If indeed there is anyone out there-heh)
say:
Elect some honest people into office who can't be lobbied. An
honest politician? That's a hoot, an oxy-moron (fitting isn't it)
Like
jumbo shrimp. I hate to say this but I will anyway for the record. We
will
never have fairness in this country so long as dishonest men run it.
Men
who care more for money then the people they swore to serve. You need
look
no farther then the DMCA for proof. The law is so badly worded and so
broad
in scope anyone attempting to exercise their right to fair use of the
CD
they just bought can be charged with a crime and that anyone even
telling
someone how to get around copy protection to facilitate fair use can be
charged with a crime. Is it just me or is that just a little harsh?
Bush
signed the DMCA, what an asshole, I'm sorry I ever voted for this
clown.
IMHO elections are a sham; you are just replacing one set of imbeciles
for
another. If this sounds UN American, don't let it bother you, I love
my
country. I was in boot in the army camp on my 18th birthday having
enlisted
when I was 17. What I can't stand are the people we are forced to
choose
from to run it. I have a problem with the government pandering to a
dishonest, sleazy organization like the RIAA.I have a problem with our
government selling pieces of our liberty. The USA has her head so far
up
big business's ass; I can't say for sure where one starts and the
other
ends.

Actually, I was running for President in 2012, but decided the stress would literally kill me if I made it.

(No reason to run in 2008 - Hillary will win.)

A Note sent to me from Chad:
====================

I placed a link on my main page pointing to your site using one of your
animated gifs, and you are in our affiliate or "resource" section as
well.
I will be glad to participate on your site (thank you for the invite.)
I
will be soooo buisy for the next few weeks updating the database (we
have
close to 1,000 new entrys waiting to be entered into the CD
Database-with
probibly 1,000 more that have yet to be identified at 2 Live music here
in
Akron) I also have to finish the script that compares entrys in our cd
and
dvd database against the rss feeds of the torrent sites so we can prove
the
the industrys copy protection is doing nothing but pissing off it's
customers by showing which copy protected cds are available to
download,
already ripped.Hopefully a week or so more of coding, and it will all
be
done. As for the advertisers, I wont use popups or any other intrusive
advertising tactics. No need to, there is no other site on the net that
offers the data we have. I even scripted RSS feeds for the CD and DVD
database so other sites could offer the data to their patrons-free!

Thank you for all your support, as soon as i am able to, I will be
involved
in the community! I dont want you to think I am just trying to get
links. I
appreciate your time and effort.

Your friend,
Chad

Bush didn't sign the DMCA into law; Clinton did.
