From Old English/Anglo-Saxon

ban = bone
bana = kill/killer/kill(ing) (murder?)
wol = flow
wollen = streaming

...the "bain" element of the name is possibly a change in spelling post 1066 AD due to the romance language influence (Latin/Old French/etc.)

...the "wol" (flow/streaming) part is probably correct as-is.

But I am just guessing out my ass.

SHORT summary of the relevant parts:

Bainwol was his usual asshole self

Shapiro was doing his job trying to protect the interests of the Consumer Electronics Industry (which ain't nesessarily by definition on OUR side, but DOES see the writing on the wall and knows they will loose bigtime if they piss-off the consumers too much.)

Shapiro is the head of a corporate lobby group, but at least he groks. (And, I suspect he is not evil either.)

I thought it was just RealAudio too...

" Shapiro was doing his job trying to protect the interests of the Consumer Electronics Industry (which ain't nesessarily by definition on OUR side, but DOES see the writing on the wall and knows they will loose bigtime if they piss-off the consumers too much.)"

Exactly! When people find out something doesn't work, they'll immediately blame the manufacturer, and also blame them IF THEY DIDN'T TELL THE CUSTOMER PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE ABOUT THE LIMITATIONS. Either way, the hardware manufacturers will lose!
