PROUD of your collection of CDs? In the new millennium, they could well become passe as music files are downloaded from the Net. Digital delivery is changing the way we listen and buy music. No wonder it has the music retailing world all shook up. With music available at the click of a mouse, traditional brick and mortar retail stores could run out of business. Particularly, when electronics majors like Sony, Samsung, LG Electronics and Thomson are all ready with their portable players. Clearly, this new form of music delivery is slated to pump up the volumes, with the market slated to reach $1bn by 2003.
Already, there are more than 500,000 titles on the Net, according to Lycos' listing. And the music sector isn't the only one which will be playing on the track. Next up is the leisure and movie industry. MP3, the format of choice for those looking to trade and distribute music, is already the second most popular term on the Net...
