Metallica Update: Yale Dropped from Lawsuit
Metallica, who has sued Napster and 3 universities for copyright infringement, announced today that they have dropped Yale from the list of defendants after the school shutdown access to Napster.
Shortly after the the initial announcement of the lawsuit was made, Yale univeristy network officials shutdown access to Napster. Tom Conroy, a Yale spokesman, said, "Last Friday, we began to block Napster around the clock in response to the lawsuit and until we can clarify the legal issues surrounding Napster."
Metallica saw fit to drop Yale as a defendant after the school decided to block Napster and has also stated that they will not seek further damages. Metallica released a statement on Wednesday in which they said, "We appreciate the prompt and responsible reaction by Yale University in dealing with the gross violations of copyright laws and the protection of intellectual property."
What is ironic about this whole situation is that though these universities have blocked one file sharing application, there are at least 3 other popular ones around upon which people can use to find their MP3's. link(sx.scour.com,Scour Exchange), link(www.cutemx.com,CuteMX) and link(www.imesh.com,iMesh) are just the top of the hat of file sharing applications that remain open for use by students. Even if these applications were in fact blocked, link(software.cybertropix.com/gnutella.phtml,Gnutella) remains a viable alternative which is virtually unblockable. One would speculate as to why Metallica has not decided to go after these other file sharing applications if they are indeed concerned about piracy of their artwork.
We know you have feelings on this subject, so come share your views with us.

I hope metallica loses and the judge decides that their case was so moronic that the entire band is sentenced to prison for the rest of their natural lives where they will be butt-raped daily by Bubba and his friends.
thank you. |

Well, i feel that Metallica is really stupid for what they are doing. They see that Napster is already in a vulnerable position, so they attack Napster. Knowing that there are alot of other programs and networks that do the same exact thing as Napster, they attack the one that is alrady in trouble. |

rofl...I am not sure if I would wish "butt-rape" on anyone, especially by Bubba and his friends. Though I am extremely upset at Metallica for not becoming educated before making a decision of this magnitude. The should wake up and smell the coffee before they decided to just drink what is in the cup without looking first. |

Did you learn those words on your own or were they taught to you in school? Seeing as you are going to an educational institution you could attempt to show off a little more ignorance next time. Here you sit, telling us that we should "fuck off" because we're "feltchers" but what does that have to do with the fact that Metallica is suing Napster? Provide some intelligent conversation here, not foul language.

metallica ownz me?
naaa
as for giving metallica a break... why?
they are suing COLLEGES (pretty low if you ask me)
they are suing just one of the 6 or so file sharing programs (the one that is ALREADY being sued, pretty low if you ask me)
"fuck" sure is a popular word in angry, unproductive, downright stupid messages isn't it?
