Limp Bizkit and Napster?
According to the Los Angeles times, Limp Bizkit is close to inking a deal with controversial software maker Napster Inc.
The deal, worth an estimated $2-million, is for the sponsoring of the band's next concert tour. This is completely in the face of Metallica, and other artists contemplating similiar legal maneuvers, in that not only is the band embracing the software but they are promoting a deal with them. Spokepersons for both Limp Bizkit and Napster were unavailable for comment at the time of this writing.
Further details regarding the deal have not been released yet, but you can rest assured that once they are that we will be right on top of it.

Besides grabbing songs ripped from albums, Napster is a great way of downloading bootlegs. I do not know what Limp Bizkit's concert recording policy is, but wow..
They are using Napster and music downloading to thier advantage, and that's really cool..
I wonder when the record label will step in and stop it.
Hmm.

ah, this is truly excellent.
like the band or not, this is one of the biggest things to happen to MP3 in a long time -- even bigger than it may first seem.
Fred Durst is not just hte frontman of a band who is opening it's arms to Napster, he's also the vice president of interscope records. (which holds such acts as no doubt, nine inch nails, beck, smashmouth, bloodhound gang, etc.)

i totally support limp bizkit in their decision. people are going to illegally download music no matter who sues who, and i think limp bizkit realizes this and realizes that people really dig their music. rock on!! |

Fred is no fool - how many new artist do you see becoming VP of a record label? I believe he is wise enough to realize (Unlike most music exec's) that we (the online community) are the future of music. You burn us and you burn your own future in the process. I am glad someone in the indutry finally has balls enough to take a stand for all the community online and kick some much needed support to Napster when it is most needed. CD Sales are peaking higher then they ever have, but MP3's are 'ripping off the industry'. If MP3's are like the radio, they are a highly effect means of promoting music. I know of many people that show support for bands and buy albums AFTER they listen to a MP3 or two of a artist they like. Be it because not all the tracks are out there, that they simply don't want to waste thier time downloading / decoding / buring all the tunes to disk, or that they really got love for the artist. The end thing is the industry is doing better then they EVER have, but all they do it bitch. Get over it - you burn the community and you burn your own future. I can't wait till some of these artist get the wiser, realize that doing hte solo mission with thier own .com and partnering with some place like CDNow will bring them 5 to 10 times the amount of money per song and say 'phuck the industry' and embrace the online community. I can see this revolution really kicking in full effect as soon as more high end consoles and 'web appliances' hit the streets in a year and a 1/2 from now. If these 'players' whom dominate the industry now and jack up the prices of albums don't watch thier asses they will start losing artist as soon as one of them really make it solo. Can you imagine if WuTang's first album was released for the first time now online - I wonder if they would have ever inked a deal with a record company at all? I know Rza's got the knowledge to make something like that shine and redefine the way the music game is played online. That's the rant for the time - the rest I will save for my own domain : : XGN : : The X Generation Network - http://XGeneration.net

I think that limp bizkit deserves credit for keeping things in perspective... and not being fitting into the greedy fucking mold that all celebrity's fit into when they *THINK* they're interests are threatened...

damn -X-, that's one long post!!
where does Napster get this money? advertising on their site or something?
maybe I'm missing something, or maybe I just have no idea how much internet advertising really makes, but $2Million extra to donate seems like a lot (I think it's really cool that Napster is doing it, but just wonder how)
It's also really cool that Limp Bizkit are really cool for supporting Napster, but don't forgit all the other artists that have been supporting MP3s for a really long time (They Might Be Giants comes to mind imediatly)
it's funny actually, people have heard of Napster, so artists start suing Napster Ink. while people have been trading MP3s on IRC for years

Musically, Limp Bizkit can never match Metallica . But Metallica seem to have lost a lot of respect or support over this. Also I think this is just opportunism on the part of Limp Bizkit to gain more support. |
