Napster Kicks 317,377 Mighty Pirates
Alright, this whole Metallica & Napster thing is getting more ridiculous every day. But now it has reached a new level of lameness.
The story so far: Metallica didn't like Napster, Metallica sued Napster, Metallica gave Napster a list of terribly evil pirates distributing Metallica songs, Metallica forced Napster to delete the accounts of these users..
"Make it so" someone at Napster said and poof! All accounts were gone or at least disabled for now, without having checked if the tremendously evil users really distributed songs by the whining snobs, err, Metallica.
Now, what if your account was disabled and you want it back? If you didn't share Metallica songs you can fill out a form on Napster's page, maybe they'll see their error and reactivate your account. If you actually shared Metallica songs it would be pretty stupid if you fill out that form, since it says:
"In order to submit a counter-notification, you must certify, under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that you were disabled as a result of Metallica's mistake or misidentification of files you shared as infringing. Your account will remain blocked unless and until you submit a sworn statement of all the information contained in the "counter notification" form found below. That form must include your full real name, address, Napster username, and your consent to being sued by Metallica in the federal court where you reside."
Sounds like fun, uh? I don't wanna rant about Metallica, because I think every user here will post a comment doing so. Will we beat the 100 comments mark this time?
Anyway, you know what's the saddest thing about all this stuff? I used to call Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" and "The Unforgiven" some of my favorite songs ever. I really loved these songs, but now, I can't listen to them anymore. I don't know why, but every time I hear them I skip to the next song on my playlist.

You're complaining about how long it would take for Napster to go through and remove all the users, you you want them to verify that each one in fact had Metallica mp3s? Heh. |

I like metallica. It's true that it is lame that they're sueing Napster, but they have a point; you can't just steal their product without paying for it. Maybe they need to deal with Warner/Elektra to lower the cd prices cause the music industry is full fat cats. They're just trying something. Besides, if you were deleted, just sign up again, it's really not that hard! |

We all know it's bad to pirate music. Yet still we do it.. we don't have to start to talk about this or else Simon will throw yet another "Music is free" article at us, hehe.
I don't have a problem with them suing Napster, I have a problem with how they do it, especially the way they treat their (former?) fans. I don't see how they wanna stop all this, they simply can't.

By the way: I didn't say much, except that I think this whole thing is lame and that right at the moment I can't listen to Metallica. I never said I hate Metallica. Yes, believe it or not, I own a few of their countless CDs and from the musical point of view I think they're great (except for S&M, which I think is "meh"). I just don't like their treat their fans (including me).
So, stop throwing stuff in my mouth I didn't say.

Hehehe yeah right I'm gonna sign up and say *Hi I was contributing illegal Metallica mp3s* LIke DUH!!! Actually I rarely use napster mainly because it's so much easier to get mp3s from other sources and it's less of a pain. I never was a fan of metallica... now I know why.. they're brainless as well as over the hill. (I know I know that's harsh). Too bad they didn't go along with napster instead of suing them... the fans would have a lot more respect for them and their profits would go sky high because they respect mp3s instead of trashing 'em. (people do still buy CDs and portable CD players despite having mp3s... since mp3 portable players are still limited at the moment!) |

Last time I ran Gnutella I was seeing over 10.5 Terabytes of data online. Napster is old news. Metallica is pretty stupid in their attack. Sure they are correct, but they will loose more money out of this then if they left it alone. IMHO |

I think that Metallica needz to think more before they think. You say what happened they sued Napster ("Kick ass service, but I got banned") and then there website getz crashed saying LEAVE NAPSTER ALONE!!!! Now wouldn't that give an idea that dont mess with Napster. I have a message for Metallica and that is your living in the cyber age and as one of my friendz once said "If freedom is Out Lawed, the only free one's will be Out Lawz." And another quote form one of my friends amd this to the ADMINZ of the Metallica site "You don't have security you have a minor inconvince". |

Metallica will gain little from this. What they will lose is mad respect. Hopefully, this attempt to stop the music will cause you smarter ones (and dumbshits) to realize what a bunch of chumps the band is. Just look at the haircuts. On the other hand, they're out to let everyone know they aren't taking any shit. Shit on your fans! They like it!

If this is about the money, which it quite obviously is I'll give them the quarter that one sing is worth to me. Metallica has TRULY PISSED ME OFF.

I have to say that it was damn stupid of Metallica to step in and try to stop people from trading their songs since there's just no way to do this considering how internet works right now. So pretty much the only thing they stopped people from doing is liking Metallica.
I never liked Metallica in the first place but this just made things even worse and as a revenge ill make sure I have a few Metallica songs up on my website for grabs ;) |

no shock.. yeah i was banned. but ya know if i recall, distributing live shit from them is not illegal. 'sides S&M anyhow.. if you checkout napster.com. they tell you that metallica is only going after those who distribute songs from their albums, as in the original studio cuts. not the live stuff.. i have a number of LIVE metallica tracks. i chose to buy the albums.. well not anymore. but if anyone else can verify, i think it's s good bet a few ppl can get back on napster. i'm trying.. if only the site would work.. if not well there's scour exchange and gnutella.. unless they go after them too.. and of course the good ol reliable net. it's really not worth getting pissed about anymore.. napster followed their own rules and that they will respond to any allegations that one or more of their users are distributing illegally allowed music. read that lil window.. ya know the one that now says your banned.. when you logon it's plain and simple.

This sux I had a metallica song that I forgot was even on my computer, the reason I downloaded it in the begining was because unforgiven II was the only song I knew of that used a guitar with a b-bender and I wanted to show my friend what a b-bender was, I don't even like metallica. I never listen to them, and just because napster automatically shares this song I was to lazy to delete I got banned. |

Alright, this really fucking sucks. I don't know how many people out there on this board have been banned, but I myself have, and I can't get back on. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and making a new name, but it somehow recognizes that I'm still the same person. I have a dynamic ip too so it can't be because they recorded ips. So the only thing left is that there's something in the registry, etc. I don't have any idea where this little tidbit that tells them I'm banned is on my computer. If anyone konws a way of getting rid of it aside from reinstalling windows please let it be known.
As for Metallica, well, read the board, I don't need to say anything. |

If Metallica wants to kill Napster, I think we can do much more to them.
Metallica depends on us, the ppl who listens to their crap music (I doubt who), so lets just show them how an artist can disappear from the scene.
DON'T BUY METALLICA CDS, DON`T LISTEN TO METALLICA, DON`T GO TO CONCERTS, DON`T MENTION METALLICA
they are going to rotten alone in their studio without a penny in their bank, errr they are going to rotten in the streets cuz they won't have a studio and they won't havea penny in their porl, cuz they will be banned from banks.
All I have read about Metallica, Napster, and all the pathetic things going on, is the opinion from ppl who aren't fans of Metallica.
I want to hear what does the loyal fans thinks about all these? Do you still like Metallica? I bet you don't.
Metallica doesn`t knows how to play the game. Let me tell you how you play and how you win... you DON`T go AGAINST. Instead you try to go in favor and try to lead, so then you can lead us to what you want. Like releasing new audio files with better quality and smaller size, with new technology and something like different channels for the different instruments and voices, flexibility, and with copyrighted thing already in it, i don't know, try to innovate.
Don`t be lame sueing napster and going against everyone.
It's better saying 'Yes, but...' than saying 'No, because...'

I think its been said a million times already. This fucking sucks. One thing I did find out is that it isnt the IP's that they're after. I also have a dynamic IP so...Im guessing it recognizes the cookie....I dont know if that's truly the problem. And if it is, Im not sure if its a god idea to remove it. Either way my way of thinking stands. Metallica sucks fat sloppy horse balls. I used to like them but they just blow cock now. But yeah there are other way's of getting music. I guess metallica got bored and need something else to do rather than grab at their peckers and fix their retarded hair...So they decided to sue napster....its like beating up the smallest kid out of a group you dont like...cuz why? Because they cant get rid of all the other ones... HAHA, dont they feel smart. I guess they just wanna show their age or something saying "look at us...we still have power, even with our gray hair and wrinkles" woop dee fucking doo.... All Im saying is...go else where. I cant get back on. Thats what Im doing, I suggest you do the same. adios amigos.

Even If Metallica and Dr. Dre win the Battle over Napster, they will NEVER win the war over Mp3 trading. I feel with all the trading done over Newsgroups, FTP sites, IRC, ICQ etc and webpages they will never stop it.
Back in the 1980's Metallica had a kickass "rebel" image to thier die-hard fans. In fact they got a deal with MegaForce records (and then Elektra) because of the massive TAPE TRADING of thier demos between metal fans in the early 80's. They used to let people in thier shows with cassette and DAT recorders to record thier shows and even had set aside a special place in the arena for them! In fact I remember reading a interview with Lars saying he didnt mind people bootlegging thier concerts.
They hated Hair bands, the goverment, and Rock radio stations that didnt play thier records. Now they have become as greedy and corporate as those bands they hated back in the 80's. They are about as "cool" as Journey and Styx were back then. (if your kid sister likes them, they are not cool-remember that!)
I think the band peaked with "The Black Album" and thier later albums have been lesser in quality. The 2 Load CD's should have been condensed into one great CD, then they released a "clearing out the catalog" covers and b-sides CD and now a OK live album with a Symphony Orchestra. They still kick ass live in concert but it seems they are raking in the bucks ala KISS with tour after tour on the same old material.
I think this Napster lawsuit is gonna backfire on them in the end. Its just going to piss off thier die-hard fans (who are into newer bands) and is a betrayal of everything the band was against in the 1980s.

I didn't get banned (am I the only one?)
anyway as for something that blocks napster I'd suggest* going into regedit, searching for "metallica" "ban" "napster" "riaa" "any other shit you can think of" and deleting it, aside from "ban" I doubt any of those keywords would apear in anything too crucial to the operation of Windows, then I'd open c:\windows\win.ini and delete the whole Napster section (if there is one that is) and anything that has the above key words in it (and the whole sectoin it's in), then I'd search for those key words with "find -> files or folders" in the start menu and delete anything that comes up, hmmm anything else... can't think of anything... um?..?..
so has anyone reinstalled Windows and been able to connect to Napster when they couldn't before?
GOOD LUCK!

hey all read this.. this is in metallica's words..straight from napster
"only the songs and recordings originally included on commercially released Metallica albums, and [to] not include so-called bootleg Metallica recordings. Metallica makes no claim of copyright infringement with respect to recordings of their songs made by fans at Metallica live concerts."
no way does this mean i sympathize with them.. but maybe for the few that d/l their live stuff. may help. otherwise forget it and just go somewhere else.. i'm starting to like gnutella more and more |

I never downloaded Metallica Napster but i got all existing Metallica Shit on CD's... Yeeahh CD's are better they hold 12 Hours of Music and are more efficient so Metallica if you read this you have to know that this CD's are alllready copied to so many Peoples that stoping the spreading is not possible anymore.
And I HATE! Metallica now they delete Users of Napster i think this Action has only polarized the Anti-Napster and Napster-Lover so its possible that Metallica got over 300'000 Metallica Haters... Metallica is so Lame!! may they all Die and go directly to Hell and Burn eternaly.
They are not Musicians they are lame MoneyLoving BONZES!
From now on i will Spread your shit Music to anyone and i will copy it to any Laptop of Friends not because the want it no to spread it everywhere until you DIE!
RdpC above is right - DON'T BUY METALLICA CDS, DON`T LISTEN TO METALLICA, DON`T GO TO CONCERTS, DON`T MENTION METALLICA.
Lets show them that playing with the NetCommunity can fail and is dangerous for Bonzes.
Boycot them!!!!! Make Metallica MP3 Collections on CD's to copy them freely to anyone you know trow them to street spread them until Metallica Songs are common stuff that everybody has and nobody wants - KILL THE MARKET! KILL METALLICA!
The Image of Metallica is now the Image of Bonzes (Bonzes=Moneyloving Asholes) and no more the Rebels --> Bonzes are not Human they are less than SHit so Killing a Bonz is ok a Bonz has no Rights its only a Bonz. Bonzes are Born to get a Bullet in they Head! Thats all ;) Yes, i really Hate Them.
Why? Because now i don't see anymore me Terrabytes in Napster and that was 100% the Metallica Lamers.
Its a Betrayal! Rebels becomes Bonzes a betrayal of the Revolution! Metallica --> Fuckoff and Shutup you are not better as the Government and all other Bonzes.
Shame on you Metallica. Learn from "Grateful Dead" they let record the concerts and they fans are important more important than Money and MP3 is ok for "Grateful Dead" this is a good Group and buying CD's of them is ok.

I think that all the negative shit that Metallica is receiving from this whole Napster thing isn't really enough alone to make all their new fans, long time fans, etc. desert them. Rather, this is the straw that broke the camels back. This is the event that really pissed off everyone who was trying to stick with Metallica through all their stupid shit (i.e. Load and Reload). Well, looks like their done. I don't see them lasting more than 5 years tops unless they put out something to the effect of Master of Puppets, and what are the chances of that.... none. |

oh and by the way MP3 has cut a deal with metallica to sue napster... MP3 and Metallica are partnering but they are trying to keep MP3's name out of it for obvious reasons
dont use MP3.com and dont even sign on their site they get paid by the # of hits they get

I think metallica have every right to try and stop worldwide piracy of their fine music. If you want to listen to them you should just BUY the records. Otherwise, don't bother. Why should they provide music for free. I bet if anyone who is whinging about it found they were being ripped off for large amounts of money they'ed be pissed off too.
Of course, I'm only joking here. They've already made more money the 99.99 % of the worlds' poulation ever will, for doing fuck all when it comes down to it, so the sad twats should just be happy with what they've got and nob off.

Metalica is history. Any band that takes this attitude will fade away....and I quote:
"For the doubters out there, Metallica will carry on for the next 20 years," Ulrich said. "Whether you're around for the ride or not, that's your problem, not ours." See ya Metalica! |
