Madonna Taking Legal Action
In more Madonna news, one of the world's most well known artist is threatening to take action against Napster. As reported yesterday, the title track of Madonna's new album was reportedly stolen from the studio where it was being produced and has ended up on Napster and the Net. Today, it is still unclear to exactly what legal actions Madonna is likely to take.
Since first reporting about this story yesterday afternoon, I have constantly been searching Napster, Gnutella, and Scour Exchange for any traces of the new song, titled "Music." And have so far have been unsuccessful at finding anything at all. It wasn't until this morning that I came across a link to a website that actually has the new song in MPG format.
What I'm trying to say is I think it is unfair of Madonna to jump on the anti-Napster bandwagon just because it is the hot topic of the moment. If she is going to take legal action against users who illegally have the song, that's her decision, but she shouldn't just point the finger at Napster when there are other mediums to access "Music" (for both uses of the word).

Talk about jumping on the bandwagon. Modanno should be trying to find and punish the person that stol the song from the studio in the first place. Of course taking action against Napster is both stupid and fruitless at this point. Now that it's on the net it be can accessed any variety of ways besides using Napster. Oh well, I never really much cared for Modanna anyway. |

Is anyone else getting tired with this propaganda scheme generated by Modonna's producers.
Clearly this is hype generated by them to promote the album. Give me a break Modonna, just use the high cost traditional business model to market your stuff.

Let's see. The title track was stolen from the studio. Madonna's pissed off about it. She can't find the actual culprit, so she decides to use Napster as a scapegoat. Why not? Everyone else is blaming Napster for their problems.
Madonna (or one of her slaves) screwed up. Don't go attacking the innocent because your studio security is weak and unaware. The damage is done. If Napster wasn't around, would she sue the world wide web for allowing her song to be put on a web page? This is typical of today's society - never take the blame for your own mistakes. Take your "Music" and shove it up your ass. |

This reminds me of the time the Pearl Jam album was released on the net.
I think Alanis' latest album was also released earlier on the net (without her doing it).
They sure have gone the "online music is cool" route after being kind of "wronged".
Madonna should do what they are doing.
(I wonder why none of Axl Roses' stuff has not been leaked..)

What a pice of crap Maddonna is going to do. Did Napster went to her studio, stole the track and put it in their servers? Then why is she taking legal action against Napster? Publicity? Popularity? Propaganda for her new album? Money?
Who cares, Maddonna is a bitch and shell be soon added to the NO BUY List.

Are all artists idiots? I mean, Napster isn't the only file sharing program out there... You've got Scour.net's new file exchange program, you've got Imesh, you've got CuteMX, If Napster every dies, there's just going to be a hundred more programs taking over. Face it Music Industry, It's not going to go away... Either embrace it and use it to your advantage or, fight the good fight and eventually blow up into oblivion. |

Complaining about the song was a big mistake on Madonna's song. With all this publicity, Madonna is ensuring that many more people would download the single than would have otherwise. I personally decided to download it, even though I'm not that interested in Madonna. There are 86 occurences of this song on Napster, while her many of her more popular songs appear much less frequently. Bad move, Madonna. |

I liked madonna when I was a little kid. Now she's gonna do the same thing like what metallica did not so recent ago. I wonder if other artists is going to do the same thing against napster. Now that is a reasonable way why she's taking actions against napster. |

Let us all realize that Madonna, herself, has yet to make a statement regarding this incident. So...do not be quick to judge her yet seeing as she has not made any statements, either way, regarding Napster or file sharing in general.

Let them have it, Yay! they get to lose fans and potential new listeners over a little cash. Madonna & Metallica are RICH artists. People will buy their stuff anyway. What do they have to worry about and why are they being so damned hostile? All i have to say is that i've lost respect for madonna and wont be buying any of her CDs for the damned principle of it. Get off it! |

jark is right, she hasnt made any official statements yet. even though i think jumping on the napster bandwagon is a bit premature, without any evidence, the case will go nowhere anyway, its all for publicity nothing more. |

Just like Metallica, I've owned all of Madonna's albums. But, just like Metallica, and Dre. and a few others, in which I've purchased every album, I will no longer support or endorse these artists and I will go out of my way to badmouth and stop anyone from purchasing any of their music for suing Napster.
It's utterly ridiculous. If they sue Napster, I should sue them for the 30 grand I spent in cd's, that had no resale value.
CD's should cost around 5 bux. Maybe now, the artists will take control of their music from greedy record labels and stop ripping off their listeners. An mp3 album would cost next to nothing to sell over the internet, and I would GLADLY pay $5 per album.
Until this happens, I salute you Metallica, Dre, Eminem, Madonna.... with my MIDDLE FINGER!!!!!

i think the facts are correct, madonna herself has yet to give the final word about the leaked track. until she does i say shut up and wait.
a trend i've noticed, as soon as any musician says.. hey wait a minute what are you doing? everyone turns around and says 'go fuck yourself!'. hell i did it and now thinking about it and reading the numerous articles maybe these musicains have a right to say something about whats being done with the music they put their blood, sweat, tears into. this occurred w/ metallic and dr dre and seems like even ppl will 'jump on the bandwagon' and start talking shit about madonna who has yet to OFFICIALLY say what she'll do. and lets face it would you blame her if she did sue napster. it's the biggest portal for mp3s, moreso than any search engine out there right now.. thats why they're acting against it. if any other prog had the calibar of user and music available to just pluck away at guess what, thats what they would attack. (altho i'm still waiting for reports on suits against the makers of gnutella...)
now back to madonna...let me ask you all a q.. would you appreciate having a song that is still a work in progress, roaming 'round the net w/o your permission? i know i wouldn't? it's incomplete and is a bad rep to use in determinig if the new album is good or not. and ppl WILL base it on that alone. if madonna wants to give the fans a taste of whats coming, she would. but she didn't and thats the problem
mp3 is a touchy subject, i believe most intelligent users can see that.
overall i think this whole ppl vs music industry here is good. napster took mp3 trading out of the net and into your local papers and 10 o'clock news channels. and lets face it they knew exactly what the fuck they were doing from the start
*sits back and watches the bashing begin* and since i know ppl will too.. to all that will, go stick your heads out of your assholes and wake up
think b'fore you act.
oh and my name is nick.. and if you really think i'm blowing this all outta my asshole.. here email me at gersto@hotmail.com
thank you and have a nice day :) |
