The Offspring and Napster Reach Agreement

After slapping The Offspring with a cease-and-desist letter regarding the sale of Napster merchandise from their website, the two have come to an agreement that will allow The Offspring to continue selling the Napster gear.

Along with the ability to continue selling the goods that they were selling from their website, which is run by ArtistsDirect, The Offspring and Napster will be working together to offer a more complete line of Napster products. The Offspring will not be taking in the fruits of the sales but will instead be giving the money to a charity that is to be chosen by The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland and Napster creator Shawn Fanning.

Sure is nice to see a happy ending to a spout that was sure to end up making Napster look more like the bad guy in the end even though it was really The Offspring that made the offensive move here. Nonetheless, the outcome is one that will allow the good to be sold and the profits to benefit a charity - one that remains to be named but will undoubtedly be artisticly based.

It's good to see a quick resolve to this... Now if Only the riaa, metallica and dr. dre (has anyone brought to the attention of the AMA that he's no doctor and he's illegally using the title?) would come to THEIR senses!

Wtf does their music have to do with donating money to a good cause? Everyone get's what they want. I was doubting the integrity of Napster. Glad to see they are will to compromise.

Of course I have heard their music. They are one of my favorite bands. What's your point?

What does spelling have to do with any of this? Aren't we supposed to be commenting on the story above? What are all these useless comments?

Nice ripoff of Blink 182 about the Dr. Dre not having a license to practice medicine.

Please post your sources. Like Slashdot does. It's obvious that at least some of these stories are found on CNet / ZDNet which is fine, but it would be nice to have a link like you used to. Its nice to read the whole article.

Yes, *.ims.bt.net
and we all think you're lame.

Sorry to say this, but I've been an Offspring fan right from their first, self-titled album.. and they have sold out bigtime... of course they're in it for the money.. and napster stuff will bring more sales ("Oh, whilst I'm here and paying shipping, I'll have a CD")

Napster rule too, though...

and Metallica et al can go to hell
