EMusic.com to Offer Unlimited Downloads
Looking at EMusic.com's stock is like flushing a toilet, you see things going down the tubes. In the past year, the company's stock (EMUS) has gone from a high of $35.00, to a low of $1.93, with the present value of $2.25 a share. Due to these poor figures, EMusic was recently forced to downsize their employee force by 20 percent. In hopes of rallying revenue, the master minds behind the company have come up with an unlimited download subscription service.
What this means is that instead of paying .99 cents for every MP3 downloaded, visitors will pay a monthly or yearly fee and will be given access to download an unlimited amount of MP3s. Now the only thing to be left to be asked is, "Will people use the unlimited service?" Obviously there are people willing to buy their digital music, but is it enough to keep EMusic afloat? So far the answer to that would be no, but maybe this new service will catch on. And if it does, will we see similar programs offered through companies like Napster? Time will tell.

i agree, as long as people know that you can get MP3s for free, they wont spend money for them...

we all know that you can get MP3s for FREE....and that you can do it in a number of ways. but....there are still people out there who are visiting emusic.com and are buying MP3s. why? beats me. maybe they feel guilty for downloading off of a file sharing program....or maybe they want to support the artist. what i'm saying is that even though there are people willing to pay for music....it isn't enough to keep a company running. that's what's on my mind. |

Yes, no-one will buy what is free. But really folks, MP3 shouldn't be free. No-one can stand here and honestly say they believe that all music should be free. |

I regularly buy stuff from emusic. I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee for my music. I'm not going to pay $3 a song but $.99 for a single and $7-9 for an entire album is more than fair. Musicians should get paid for there work just like anyone else. I will also use napster to get the songs I can't find to buy. Until the record companies come to there senses and start offering there music as downloads, I'll download it for free somewhere else. |

I'll sign up for a month of "all-you-can-eat", stuff myself and come back another time- I sure wouldn't pay every month.
They'll probably offer us a nice mp3 car player, and a free 6 months of downloading, maybe even some stock options....... there's money to be spent, and they will spend until they run out. |
