Napster Gets New Executive
Yesterday, Napster Inc. hired Keith Bernstein, a former employee of Universal Music Group. The 34 year old will become Napster's new vice president of operations. With his old job at Universal, Bernstein made sure that artists' rights and royalties would be maintained throughout the music download process.
Bernstein's old job was no easy task considering that Universal is the world's largest record company. (Artists like Sheryl Crow and Elton John both call Universal home.) With his past experience in the music world, Bernstein should have no problem getting right to work as vice president of operations. "Napster is at the center of the digital music revolution and it can bring great benefits to artists and the industry. I am excited about this new opportunity," said Bernstein.
This transfer of companies marks the second executive to leave a leading label and join Napster. Last month, Milton Olin was hired by Napster to be chief operating officer. Olin was previously president of business and legal affairs for A&M Records.
