Adaptec and Microsoft Create a Secure CDR?
Posted by Mike Darrah on July 24, 2000 at 5:31 PM   (printer friendly)

Adaptec has announced support of Microsoft’s Windows Media Audio, in an effort to create a secure recordable CD media format.

The technology allows "rights-managed" digital audio content to be recorded on CD in a secure and trusted system. The new software is reported to be featured in Adaptec’s Easy CD Creator 4 Deluxe and Toast 4 Deluxe.

Theses new "Secure CDR’s" are reported to work in the majority of existing car and home stereo systems, which leads you to wonder how really secure are these CDR’s are anyhow? And does the majority of people care if their CDR’s are secure to begin with?

Wait--what's the point of being secure? Does that mean you can't rip them? I believe under fair use I can rip a copy for myself... So what is secure about them?

What does this mean? That i cant rip songs that i purchased off a cd ? If i can play them on my computer that means i can record them onto my computer and eventually into a wav right?. Could someone please explain?
thanks

w0w! I have been waiting my ENTIRE LIFE for this!!!! Thank you micro$oft and adapcrap!!! Seriously though nobody cares about anything "secure" as it will never work in the real world...maybe in their dream world.

What the fuck? I don't understand this at all. I have Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 (my dad purchased it :/. Shoulda just gotten warez) and there's nothing mentioned in there about "secure CD-R". Also, if it DOES prevent ripping, what a piece of shit idea.
