AOL Shuts Down Search Engine
Today the Wall Street Journal reported that America Online will take down their new search engine that allows users to find music files in MP3 format. With the new AOL/Time Warner merger, such a project would undoubtedly cause friction between the two groups.
Employees at Time Warner wondered what people would think when the two companies combined, yet AOL was helping to find illegal copies of Time Warner artists' pirated songs.
A spokesperson for AOL told the Wall Street Journal that its service could not tell the difference between legal and illegal MP3s and until that function has been created, the search engine would be shut down.

how long before they decide that WINAMP shouldn't play files any files until it knows which songs are legal or illegal to play? |

Ha--that's probably the only reason TW wants to do the merger--so they can control the most popular MP3 player out there :) Oh that's evil ;)
AOL becomes big brother--watching everyone through AIM, ICQ, Netscape, and soon Winamp...
