More Trouble for Shawn Fanning and Napster
It's not looking too good for Shawn Fanning and the rest of Napster crew. The recording industry has now created powerful allies in their fight to stop the file swapping application. Three new organizations that have filed "Friend of the Court" briefs against Napster, are the Justice Department, the U.S. Copyright Office, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
"Napster's latest defense is yet another veiled attempt to reinvent itself, its legal position and copyright law. The fact is, the law is on our side. We are not suing a technology. We are suing a company that is stealing work that does not belong to them," said Hilary Rosen, CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America.
At least I can understand why those government organizations might have something against Napster, unlike yesterday when the National Basketball Association and the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball also signed "Friend of the Court" briefs. Napster's response on the matter is expected sometime later today.

Someone really needs to kick the RIAA in the balls, they can't do it alone so they have to pull other "legal" guns out just to dual.
No offense to women but Hilary Rosen needs to move out of position and let someone with a brain run the RIAA. Or better yet, do away with RIAA and come up with something more to suit the digital media realm. |

The Justice Department, the U.S. Copyright Office, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Okay, perhaps I can understand that the USCO would have an interest, but what patents or trademarks is Napster violating? And the Justice Department? Isn't this like claiming to be your own best friend?
Besides, how can government agencies get involved w/this? Aren't they supposed to be impartial until the gavel comes down? |

Leading off with 'no offense to women but...' is a bigger offense to women than the statement you were worried about offending them with. if hilary was a man, would you have led off with "no offense to men?" a stupid person can be a man or a woman, just as a smart one can be. dont be a sexist by trying not to be a one. |

i'm all for go napster go but i'm tired of the napster attitude. you all act like it's owed to you. until napster came along it was a bunch of irc'ers doing it and it was illegal and they were all looked down as evil mp3 groups, it's mainstream now, you're still stealing, deal with it |

-before reading, realize I know nothing of Dennis Rodman in reality, but he's fun to make fun of-
Yeah. Basketball. Well damn, I'm sure glad they're against this evil Napster thing. I mean, if anyone has got a grip on this issue it's Dennis Rodman. I wonder if they'll start showing RIAA commercials between ball games. It would be great. They'd have some starkly lit room, (really only lit by Rodman's hair) and he'd be sitting on a wooden chair, staring directly at the camera (ala The More You Know):
Rodman: Being a pro basketball player, this Napster thing has impacted me tremendously. I grew up in the ghetto, shooting hoops with my "brothers." It took me a long time to realize that instead of wasting time with those lowlifes, I could jump into bed with Hillary Rosen instead.
Spend time talking to your kids about mp3s. Or someone else might. |

Right... except for that little thing in the constitution that says "the President shall be 35 years of age..."

Great point. All these anal-retentive corporate bastards have to be the most retard group of dipshits in the world. Okay fine, shut down Napster. What good is gonna do? Well lets see....your going to piss off a few million people for starters. Oh by the way you money hungry douche bags, there is this really neat invention called a CD burner. If we can't download our favorite music off of Napster, then how you gonna stop the American public from throwing a music cd in their computer and burning copies of it to give to our friends? You gonna illegalize cd burners, tape recorders, and VCR's????
And for all those big artists, bands, and musicians that are against Napster, are you forgetting that if it wasnt for people like us your sorry ass would be working at Burger King????? |
