EMusic files Copyright Lawsuit vs. MP3.com
Posted by Mike Darrah on December 19, 2000 at 11:46 AM   (printer friendly)

Just when you thought the legal issues were clearing up for MP3.com, enter a pissed off EMusic.com, suing the company for using content from the 13,000 albums that they have made deals with around 600 various record labels to use.

The suit also brings in six independent record labels on the side of EMusic, claiming that MP3.com violated copyrights by offering them online without permission.

While this case is interesting in that it is a Music Service Provider suing another Music Service Provider fighting over fair use of digital music online, I am sure it is pushing the gray hairs out on some of the folks at MP3.com.

EMusic does not seem to be making a lot of good PR moves on it's own behalf with the public considering the recent attack on Napster users who gain access to EMusic artists through the service. EMusic forced Napster to ban accounts they find infringing while scanning the service with "acoustic fingerprinting" technology.

pfft.... I dont think mp3.com will EVER be at a period where there are no lawsuits....

BUT, with mp3.com, there getting LOTS AND LOTS of publicity...

With these lawsuits, their just making more users for mp3.com... hah

look at napster for example... the users have, and still are increasing incredibly fast now that all these legal actions are taking...

GOD DAMNIT, i hate all this bullshit over illegal mp3s and shit, I liked it better before millions of people were using napster, before bands sued their fans, and before companies sued eachother because of content they've been using for years, jesus christ people, look at this all, soon enough there will be no trade of mp3's easily, so the majority of you will be SCREWED so stop all this fucking bullshit and get on with it, good god....

HAHAHAHAHA!

they are so funny.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeee funny.
they are becoming, becoming a record label (so to speak).
but really, they are just out to exploit talent, as much as any major label.

i have no further comment at this time.

THE WATER IS SAFE!

The only thing emusic was ever good for was the free Nomad I got for spending 50 bucks with them. Well, guess what emusic? It's the LAST $$ you'll EVER get from me!
