MP3i - MP3 Interactive Technology

First International Digital, Inc. (FID) and Songdog Network, Inc have announced a new twist to MP3 technology with the announcement of MP3i technology.

The new technology is reported to allow for protective control over the file format, along with allowing more advanced features in playback then a typical MP3. The technolgy's "secure synchronized interactivity" of graphics during playback allows for the display of the song’s lyrics, images, or advertisements as the song plays.

The technology is reported to also feature a robust but easy to use encryption/decryption scheme along with unique user-specific transaction ID's, something that may turn some users off to the new technology.

First International Digital will be unveiling its latest hardware offering which features the new technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 6-9. The “irock! 680” portable MP3 player with Karaoke will allow consumers to view song lyrics, and record their voice simultaneously, adding a new twist to the conventional portable MP3 player market.

Music encoded in the MP3i format will be available on MP3Karaoke.com, a part of the Songdog Network.

FID also stated that the "MP3i Creator" software they have designed allows for the creation of synchronized digital music in the MP3I format, allowing adaptation of digital music in more then just the MP3 format.

First International Digital, Inc. is a spin off of Motorola, and has over 100 patents in audio, video, speech and communications technology. The combination of credentials and patents from the company make the announcement of this new interactive digital audio technology even more interesting to say the least.

hmm ... ads being coded into the audio file format?
sounds like a recipe for annoyance.

perhaps more interestingly though ...
this notion of a multipurpose file format, as it were...

ads, lyrics ... these things are all passive ... but if someone gets the notion to include attachments that actually involve the listener in an active way ... a read/write way ... an executable launching way ...

if i were planning to launch a computer virus, i'd be very interested in this development.

i was thinking the same thing. if this technology allows ads and other interactive installments to be added into the normal mp3 file, then what will stop people from using it more than to know that possibly, a virus could somehow be carried in this file. dont tell me it wont happen either, because i'm sure someone will find a way.

personally, i try to avoid ads whenever possible. even if this new technology gives us the opportunity to see the lyrics, who is actually, sitting around holding their mp3 player and staring into it while trying to read the lyrics? dont most people listen and do work at the same time?

if you ask me, i think it can be dangerous...what if your walking and reading the lyrics and all of a sudden...BANG!

oh well, i dont think i'd consider it useful in any way to me.

I wonder if there's going to be a way to distinguish between traditional mp3s and "enhanced" mp3s... for those of us who don't want the ads or to risk the possibility of viruses, as homogenuity mentioned.

I think the idea's kinda creepy.

Right, Dooby... some of these folks have too much in the way of brains and too little in the way of morals.
