TVT Records Drops Napster Suit
Posted by Mike Darrah on January 25, 2001 at 8:24 AM   (printer friendly)

In what is hopefully a growing trend, TVT Records announced today that they are dropping their lawsuit against Napster, and will work and promote the growth of Napster's upcoming subscription service

Steven Gottlieb, President of TVT Records, stated that they are dropping the lawsuit and will now support the revolutionary file sharing service under the strategic alliance it has reached with Bertelsmann.

TVT, with popular musicians such as Snoop Dogg under its wing, has grown increasingly comfortable with digital music. The announcement of the alliance with Bertelsmann, and the dropping of the lawsuit against file sharing service Napster, shows the label is certainly aware of the power that can be harnessed with digital music promotion and marketing, if done correctly.

While exact financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed, TVT Records stated that it is allowing Napster the use of it's music on the file sharing service.

"Napster will be an important revenue stream for artists once the new service rolls out," Gottlieb said.

Welcome to the future: All New, All Exiting Pay Napster ;)
