I have been away for quite a while.
The explosion of social networking these past couple of years has killed the traffic we once obtained (and, upon a time innovated) here at Boycott-RIAA. We chanted and prayed for the death of the dinosaur with their old business model (and found that we, ourselves fell victim to the changing world's paradigm shift.) Should we just give up?
I am of half a mood (only HALF right now, mind you) to take the plunge again into being a moderator of those who subscribe to the mindset of a "Boycott-RIAA" online community. However, to engage the public, we have got to have a presence that is visible to the public.
The hard facts are that nobody "knows" about the Boycott-RIAA website anymore. Back in the day was back in the day. (And YES, it is true that we DID carry buckets of water uphill both ways in a snowstorm with an onion tied to our belts!)
Right now, with all that has happened with social networking these past couple of years, I feel that reddit.com is the best place to move forward with our agenda.
facebook, although extreemly popular, has become evil as can be.
twitter is for the birds.

As long as I have a working admin password, I'll still be able to post here too. (But, THAT sorta thing is up to leflaw and DMusic.)
But, for the sake of finding eyes and ears, I will be moderating at http://www.reddit.com/r/BoycottRIAA/
(well, ...at least until I give up due to lack of interest by the potential participants.)

The dinosaur turns out to be an incorrect analogy for the RIAA. They're still around and this place is dead. I'd say that the crocodile is a better analogy. |

Sadly, I would have to agree. I have waited months for a new article to discuss and nothing has come.. until now.. and it's just basically "abandon ship, I might decide to initiate self destruct".
I know articles are still being published because I'm still reading alot everyday.. but, nothing here for months and months. I was starting to wonder if you just left the site and let it sit until the domain expired? :(
I think, for what its worth you should continue posting new articles for us to read and discuss. Or not, thats entirely upto you.

I wish I had the time to devote to being the Boycott-RIAA admin.
(I believe in our "stance/principles/agenda" more-so than anyone.)

It's a shame you feel that way, Shmoo. It takes more time than most readers realize to do this, especially every day. But the "bin" should always be the top story-- and readers can then add links. That keeps the information flowing. I'll try to post more stories here, at least links, because just like FaceBook and Twitter, I don't DO reddit.com. Luck with that project, though! |

What is the financial state of the RIAA companies? EMI is selling off the family silver to pay interest payments, and burning the furniture to keep warm. I'm not sure about the other corporations.
I read in The Atlantic that CD sales are down 50% from a decade ago, and digital sales are not substituting.
It seems to me they have been severely chastized. Sometimes you have to be happy with fighting to a standoff. :) |

Why would the digital sales make up for it? Would you honestly pay a dollar for an inferior audio track, when you could download a higher quality sounding drm free track for free?
I'd like to think the riaa is hemmoraging now; we must continue to make it bleed.
