AMI Entertainment, RIAA And FBI Combat Illegal Jukebox Play

The tentacles range far and wide. Jukebox companies feel deprived; report any nonstandard digital jukeboxes at once, so the RIAA has SOMETHING to do besides pester congresscritters.

It is however, nice to know the FBI isn't sitting around on their thumbs. Stay cozy with the RIAA, boys!

LimeWire faces new copyright suit

Now eight members of the National Music Publishers' Association have jumped on the bandwagon to help grind the evil LimeWire into the copyright dust. They're asking for $150,000 for each song that was willfully infringed, and $30,000 for whatever else they can think of. Considering the story earlier this month about how low sales are, the music industry is doing a wonderful job of committing suicide, because no matter how many things they gain control of, I'll still never buy a cd/download of their cookie-cutter artist of the month. Make that week. No, day. RIAA artists have a short shelf life these days.

Requests to identify who is behind the site have been stonewalled thus far" -- come out, come out, whoever you are! Awwww, that's okay, we know who you are anyway. Citizens are not likely to lobby for laws limiting their own freedoms.

"At a hearing yesterday, several experts told the US International Trade Commission that many of the estimates of piracy losses touted by the entertainment industries were inflated or misleading. Others claimed that current enforcement methods arent working and suggested they try something else."

Skeptics of the world unite! The government has always been a bit slow on the uptake. They have to be told over and over and over again...

From Bloomberg Businessweek...

Recording industry spent $1.36M lobbying in 1Q

... and that's down from the same time last year. Think what they could have done with that money, like find and develop new artists. I know, too easy!
