Even MS servers can be fairly secure when configured right. But that server was not configured right. I suspect my three-year-old unpatched apache server with a firewall like a sieve and telnet open would take longer to hack. |

There are some forgivable situations, such as when the company has been stupid enough to rely on frontpage extensions or ASP. But no webserver is secure out of the box. They have to be kept properly configured and patched. Apache is easier to keep secure because the code is checked a lot more throughly. MS might have a few hundred programers working full time, but linux has a few hundred thousand working part time. |
