RIAA HaCkEd Again....
Posted by Bill Evans on December 30, 2002 at 4:29 PM   (printer friendly)

Yep it's true, the RIAA website, well known for being hacked has experienced the embarrassment once again. No wonder these people want to lock down all computers...they don't have a clue how to keep one secure.

Waxy.org has posted a cached copy of a couple of the pages, and also the form that people were using to make changes to the website. Seems the RIAA left their form open to the public...Not a good thing to do, when you are an organzation that is hated almost as much as the KKK.

After their last hack, they did upgrade to a later version on Microsoft Server (from 4 to 5 as I remember)but obviously they still don't know how to work it or make it secure.

A few screenshots of the Hacked Pages:

You didn't show the best parts. Where they said penis(although you showed where they SHOWED penis), etc. I had them, but I forgot to back them up before I reformatted

And where they had the news article about free music.

Anywho, nice to see it. :))

Only 2 worked for me. Others showed me 404. And I didn't notice anything in the http://www.waxy.org/random/html/riaa_hacked/ link.
But good that they have been hacked again.

That's what happens when you run a Monkey$oft Web server! tee hee

Even MS servers can be fairly secure when configured right. But that server was not configured right. I suspect my three-year-old unpatched apache server with a firewall like a sieve and telnet open would take longer to hack.

...and yeah, ppl using Money$oft server instead of apache need to be hacked w/o mercy :))

There are some forgivable situations, such as when the company has been stupid enough to rely on frontpage extensions or ASP. But no webserver is secure out of the box. They have to be kept properly configured and patched. Apache is easier to keep secure because the code is checked a lot more throughly. MS might have a few hundred programers working full time, but linux has a few hundred thousand working part time.

Heh heh. I noticed it was down the other day, and just thought that there was some other problem.

Let them see what it feels like to have their site hacked?
I wonder if they still fully support the Berman bill?

Of course they will. In fact, one of the arguements used by supporters of the bill is "Hackers can do this already, so why cant we?" :-)
