Let's see...
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of 6/27/2003 at 12:23PM EDT, the population of the US was 291,352,490.
Also according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of households with internet access rose from 42 percent in December 1998 to 51 percent in August 2000. Although I'm sure this percentage has greatly risen since this time, for the sake of fairness, let's assume the current percentage has only gone up to about 55%.
Also, I feel it would be safe to assume that the average number of people in each household would be the same for those with and without internet access.
Using this logic we could determine that at least 51% of the total population of the U.S., or 160,243,870 U.S. residents current have home access to the internet.
According to Boston-based research firm the Yankee Group, there are 57 million Americans who use file-sharing services today.
Assuming I'm not too far off with my calculations, more than 35 percent of Americans with home internet access use file-sharing services.
How can you possibly consider that proportion of citizens to be criminals? Does the RIAA really think that suing their customers en masse will boost their profits? Have they decided to abandon music altogether and use pure litigation as their new business model? Are they all working for the lawyers now?
Maybe they have finally realized that they can't stop their business from going down the tubes, so in true "scorched earth" fashion have decided to take everyone down with them. |

If this crap continues on and they actually do succeed in suing the pants off of some people and/or send them to jail, I'm sure we can expect to see a digital war played out against all involved parties. The likes of which has never been witnessed before. |

You're not kidding. They think that technology and the internet are their enemies? Just wait until they have to do without their computers for months on end because of the hacker backlash. |

As I stated in response to the Revenge on the RIAA post, we should attack their stocks. You know people who invest, you might invest your selves. The RIAA and their member companies are obviously out of touch with their customer base and doing every thing they can to hurt their own sales. the answer start a campaign to short the stocks of the RIAA member companies. If it catches on not only will it drive their stock value down, but we the people getting screwed by the RIAA can make money off their falling stocks! |

Stevebugge,
Along those same lines, if we purchase such stocks and if the combination of what we own equates to greater than 50%, then effectively we become their bosses. I can see how your idea of revenge through the stock market could really bring them to their knees. |

Bravo!!! The troops are massing. Keep it going. Since RIAA is mounting it's attack on music downloaders, in July, with "Cease and Desist" orders, how about a boycott of CD's for the month of July? If that does not work, hey I can make it past Christmas with the CD's I've already purchased. |

That's a WONDERFUL IDEA !!
If we unite, we SHALL win! In Poland, we have defeated communism in the similiar way (though the conditions were worse; there was no anti-com litigation, just the 'underground' activity, with millions of Polish heroes were involved in). If we UNITE, if we contribute our money, if we shall act colectively, we will DEFEAT those monsters; now they preying (ie hunting) as they wish, because they know the 'average P2P user' is nearly defenseless; when we unite, they will be NOT so assured, being aware, that their attack against ANYBODY in the P2P may spark the legaldefense.org (or other organisation's, but I propose to unite all of them) defense and counter-attack. They will start to live in fear, ha hah, always aware of the given fact, and unaware about WHO may or may not be able to be their real enemy! Or, is it better to let them know? to attach the notice like this "I am a contributor of [some organisation] which defends my rights online, and I am ready to join a class-suit against RIAA, as well as there are lots of people supporting me financially, should I be sued", acting as a deterrent???
Anyway, HAIL P2P !! Down with RIAA and MPAA (and Vivendi/Universal)
