Boycott-RIAA founder to attend Music Wars Debate
Posted by Jon Newton on September 10, 2003 at 6:49 PM   (printer friendly)

TechTV has invited Boycott-RIAA founder Bill Evans to attend the TechTV Music Wars Special.

"I just got off of the phone with them," Evans says. "It means a 4 hour drive to Raleigh NC from Roanoke, VA in the middle of the night, to catch a flight that leaves at 7AM Eastern time, to be able to get to the studio by the deadline.

"I'll be there - count on it!"

BUT ... no one here is drawing down a million-a-year, we don't have a huge staff of lackeys to do our bidding, we have to work hard to get the truth into print - on and offline - and we don't have Hollywood pouring money into our pockets.

This means Evans needs help to come up with the airfare by tomorrow morning.

So, go to Boycott-RIAA.com RIGHT NOW and buy a t-shirt, or anything else you can afford, and DONATE DONATE DONATE.

Because you can bet your ears that if Evans is there, Cary-Sue will know it.

We'll put up a notice when we have enough to send Evans on his way.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Posted by Bill Evans
We've raised enough to cover the roundtrip airfare, but be assured we need anything you can send to help us keep the real issues on the front burner...and continue to raise public awareness.

Thank you my friends. I'll do my best to do you proud.

Bill Evans

This is great news... I really want to donate money. Unfortunately I am currently unemployed and in a very tight finicial situation. Hopefully that will all be changing soon, and my first paycheck will be spent on at least a t-shirt.

I have a question for Bill Evans. What, if anything, is this website doing to help those people who are right now being sued by the RIAA, and what can we do to help them? I think that is the top priority right now, getting these folks legal help to fight the RIAA because this can happen to anyone of us in the near future!

$11.63 down to the last penny of my paypal account sent. Get there Bill ;)

I can only spare a few bucks right now, but I am definately willing to do so. I know every little bit will help.

Only concern is that I only see a donate button. Should I donate, how can I guarantee that this is what the money will be for? I mean, I realize it will be for boycott-riaa.com, which is fine with me, but I would like to donate specifically to the 'flight to techtv' fund.

Anyone have any suggestions?

just, (and i say this with utmost respect) keep it clean and concise. i know we're all angry but when we resort to foul language we do nothing but hurt the cause.

We are out there fighting for your rights...None of the people who have been sued thus far have contacted us. I understand there is a fund raising going on for the 12 year old that got sued...You can pledge at
http://funkbunny.com/datatype/ I just pledged $20. I also donated to Jessie Jordan and Daniel Peng. That comes out of my pocket...not the funds we raise. (which isn't all that much, let me assure you, and that goes to pay for the hosting, bandwidth, and phone bills, postage and the related expenses to running the site.) If anyone contacts us we can put them in touch with various lawyers who can help.

Baseball shirt duly purchased and hopefully winging its way across the atlantic in the near future! - we've escaped the worst of this so far in England - though I did get a C&D for having a (well known) fake Harry Potter EBook! - if the USA falls then Europe follows, if you guys win through then the rest of the free (ha!) world stands a chance of some sort of sanity and fairness winning through.

As a side note, although a non-USA boycott of RIAA still hits them in their wallets does it not also mask off how P/O you guys are? if the labels see this as a local problem then if the rest of the world boycotts they may just look upon it as a global downturn - thoughts and discussion on this are welcome!

I was going to write something funny, as I often do (well, they are intended to be funny), but instead, I just wanted to send props to you man. Running a website that gets this much traffic isn't hard, and you do lots of this movement in the background. We come in here, in a place you made for us, and get to rant, rave, pontificate, and get wacky, but you are putting a lot on the line, and I think I speak for the majority here in saying, we really appreciate what you have done, and what you are doing.

Heck, even the Z-man, George did a post today.

Safe journey, calm thoughts, and may you be more articulate and more self possessed than any opponents.

Heck, I'm already proud of your appearance and it hasn't even happened.

I for one will be watching the show, sending postive thoughts, and praying for you.

Thanks Bill. You're a good man, a patriot, and you're "representing" for all of us.

Your friend...

I make a grand total of 6000 per year. I'm a lowly collage student. But I'm gonna donate. I'll go without eating if it comes down to it. I want to see some people looking out for my interest standing up and fighting and I trust the founder of this organization to do so. So I'm donating right now. Kick some ass man and dont let them pin illegalities on the situation. Don't let them use ill concieved laws to smear the privacy invasions and harm they are doing to our society.

to finally have our point of veiw is great. the media have been so one sided and republican minded about this topic that it makes me wonder if the media is getting kickbacks from the riaa along with the profit minded polititians.go for it bill, trailblaze the way for the blinded masses to see how they have been brainwashed into seeing this riaa fiasco into a one sided affair and that our point of view in this matter is one of a just cause. because in this country it is "the land of the free...and home of the brave". god bless you bill i know you will do good and i will be watching...down with the riaa!!!!

I have to Thank you guys...Because I like many Americans have hidden my head in the sand. On many issues I have thought...How can I help? I am just one. Through the years I grew bitter with what I was seeing my country become. Still I thought I am just one...Now I know one becomes two and two becomes three. So yes I have to say Thank you, for I fianlly realize I becomes WE the consumer are the controlling factor.

Unlike the RIAA you don't have to be rich to participate here...I am so impressed with all of you...we've actually had a couple of $100 donations, a coupla $50's, a $40, a few twenties and a number of $10's and some smaller donations. Folks, we've got the Airfare covered...THANK YOU!!!! But please feel free to donate toward the goal of expanding the fight and continue to get the word out...We want to do so much more, but we need money to take make it happen. A full page ad in the Washington Post costs approx 12,000, New York Times 80,000, other major market newspapers somewhere in between, just as an example. Just today Larry Feldman and I had an interview with Newsweek. By raising the tempo and taking he fight to them we are getting the much needed attention we need to raise the awareness in the real issues.

maybe its time to get specific..... How about a new campaign to boycott ALL CD music pruchases through the holiday season October 31st through December 31st...

Demanding all lawsuits be dropped, the establishment of competitive, reasonably priced services that break the monopoly machine, and free access to distribution for new artists...

I am truly greatful to God that Bill is going in direct opposition to the RIAA. The prayers of everyone here, and all the millions of people not here yet are being answered by you.
He is, in my opinion the next Martin Luther King Jr.

May peace and comfort and wisdom protect him so that the forces of Hell are disarmed.
