MAD magazine shows its stand on Piracy
If any of you still read MAD magazine, or ever did, you know that their opinionated. The December issue I got (its nice airplane material) has at least 3 statements, though small, about piracy. It's good to see someone doesn't see us as evil!
December of 2003 isnt here, but the issue is for MAD. You read some, and it has a music section describing how some artists are mass produced, and how even though its crap if you download it you will get sued.
Over J. Lopez's "I'm glad" video, they say "Although this video completely rips off the look and style of an existing film, thats okay, because legally its an "homage". However, if you download the song on Kazaa without paying, the record company will sue your ass into oblivion"
Pretty funny, I wonder if MAD will get sued?
Another part says "Yeah, the music industry claims to be really cracking down on music piracy, but these are the same business geniuses who think signing Kelly Osbourne to a multi-album contract is a good idea, so we're guessing your chances of still being able to illegally download Coldplay's latest CD and getting away with it are pretty friggin' good"
Though this isnt much, at least we know someone out there with something to distribute, although probably not well read, knows the music industry sucks.

So funny, yet sadly true... It only makes me crave the fall of the RIAA even more. |

I don't know if it was mentioned on this site, but South Park actually took a stance on file sharing a few weeks ago. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it. It is Brilliant. |

Maybe this was covered in a previous week, but South Park did a superb episode this season on the issue of DL'ng on Kazaa.
I loved the part where the cop showed the boys the "poor" rock star, sitting outside of his mansion, by the pool, lamenting the fact that he couldn't install a solid gold wet bar because his music was being DL'd online.
Hilarious.

Speaking of making fun of the music industry? Has anyone heard the Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's radio release? It's hilarious it really sticks it to a lot of the rap and pop stars out there. |
