Yesterday I received the letter from my Internet Service Provider, SBC that MPAA has subpoened the records for 64 IP addresses, and my account is associated with one of them. MPAA has filed suit as Does 1-64 for copyright infringement of motion pictures.

I read several articles and getting successful motion of quash is next to impossible in this matter.

I would like to know approximately how much it will cost for settlement.

A legal fight will be expensive. To get more time to consider your options, you should waive service of the summons. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) allow you 60 days to answer the complaint if you waive service but only 20 days if you don't waive service. Contact the MPAA attorney and offer to waive service under [FRCP 4(d)(3)]. 60 days will give you time to see if you can find an attorney to take your case or deal with MPAA. If you waive service, it will save them and you money and you may get a better settlement offer for your cooperation. If you don’t waive service, a process server will hunt you down and serve you in person. He may find you at work or otherwise embarrass you when he serves you. There is no advantage to not waiving service. They will find you unless you live in a cave with Osama bin Laden. Good Luck!
